Underwater Cable Applications
Mercury Wire Products engineers and manufactures a wide variety of custom cables designed for underwater use. Whether fresh water, salt water or any aqueous environment (such as swimming pools, potable water or sewer systems), we have the experience to meet the most demanding requirements.
Our customized submersible cables can combine power and signal within the same construction and are suitable for virtually all marine environments. The cables are flexible, durable and abrasion and chemical resistant with a proven record of successful performance under extended immersion conditions. Our cables can be designed with controlled buoyancy to minimize the cable's effect on ROV movement.
Mercury offers various methods of preventing water penetration into the cable in the event that the outer jacket is compromised. This includes applying a waterblock material to fill the voids between the conductors to minimize water wicking. Other options include the use of special fillers that absorb liquid and swell, preventing egress of water.
For applications requiring specific break or tow strength, aramid fibers of Kevlar®, Twaron®, Technora® or Vectran® can be applied as braids, fillers or served shields to achieve required performance. Braided armors such as stainless steel are also available.
Submersible cable applications include ROV's, underwater instrumentation, surveillance camera, photo/video, communications, towed or moored arrays, robots, cleaners and push rod video pipeline inspection cables.
