A good break does more for a shift than most people give it credit for. A few minutes outside, a real conversation with a coworker, a lunch that does not happen at a desk or a machine. That adds up, and it deserved a better space than we had.
So we built one.
Our new picnic area is now open at Mercury Wire, and it exists because our own people made it happen. Jose and Scott put in the hours to build the space itself, from the structure to the finishing touches. What used to be an unused corner of the property is now a place to eat lunch, catch up with coworkers, and take a break that actually feels like one.
We Celebrated the Way We Should
A new space deserves a proper opening, so we fired up the grill and threw a cookout for the whole team. Jose, Jose R., and Elsa handled the cooking. Our engagement team organized the event from start to finish. And a long list of volunteers handled setup and breakdown so that both first shift and second shift got the full experience, not leftovers.
Good food, good music, and an hour where the whole team got to enjoy something built specifically for them. Hard to beat.

Why a Picnic Table Matters at a Cable Plant
The people who engineer and build cable and assemblies under one roof are the same people who need a decent place to take a break. The picnic area is a small investment with a simple message: the people who build the product matter.
This project also lives out Fundamental #11: Take Pride in Our Appearance. A clean, well-kept space reflects the respect we have for our team and our commitment to excellence, and this one was built and maintained by the same hands that keep our production floor sharp.
We think that shows up in the work. Teams that connect over lunch solve problems together on the floor. That is not a slogan, it is just what happens when people know each other.
The grill has been broken in. The space is open. And if the first cookout is any indication, it is going to get a lot of use.
