Q13 – Under the Families First law, how do I request paid sick time or paid extended family and medical leave?

Starting April 1st, paid sick time and extended family and medical leave are available for COVID-19 related cases.  (See the previous FAQ question for details on eligibility and benefits)  These paid leave options are in addition to Mercury’s regular vacation and earned time options. You may choose how and when to use these options based on the specific needs of you and your family.

Here are the guidelines for requesting leave:  

  • IMPORTANT:  If you are sick or someone at home is sick, do NOT come into Mercury to request leave 
  • Talk with your Value Stream Champion about when you are taking your leave 
  • Your Value Stream Champion will help you determine whether you are eligible for paid sick leave and/or extended family and medical leave 
  • Complete and sign a COVID-19 Leave Request Form: Get Form
  • This is an important payroll record that must be completed for each week you are requesting COVID-19 leave
  • Please submit the form during the week you are requesting leave so approved leave can be included in your next check
  • If you are sick or someone at home is sick, we will arrange to collect the form, so you don’t have to come to Mercury
